Multi-user online games (Week 3)

By nature, people are very playful. No other species pursues such a wide variety of entertainment. The right entertainment is a very important element of our life. It boosts our energy and desire to do everything that we need to do. Research has shown that playing games is essential for healthy development especially in early childhood.

Gaming is obviously social, so it is not a surprise that one of the major forms of using social media and social network is online gaming industry. We are witnessing the biggest revolution in games since the introduction of home computers: online games, played via modem over the Internet. Many companies now insist that every game they develop must have an online component. The most ambitious online games are persistent worlds, which immerse hundreds of players in a single, shared environment.



The predecessor of modern online games was MUD that stands for Multi-User Dungeon. MUDs were a revolution in gaming. These games tend to be linear, with the players progressing through the story untill the end. The world is alive and changing that creates a dynamic environment for players. MUDs were played via text commands.

The online multiplayer option has caught the interest of many people. Fight against the evil with your friend and enjoy games with your companions. 


Nowadays there is an enormous variety of different Massively Multiplayer Online Games(MMOG, or simply MMO): , MMORPG, MMOFPS, MMOSG, MMOBA and so on.
Interacting with thousands of people across the globe  - that is exactly what makes MMOGs so addictive and interesting.


Due to technology progress in recent years and the invention of 3D graphics and special effects, the games became more realistic. The invention of 3D graphics created a new instruments for building realistic textures and interactions between the objects.

Playing video games alone is forgotten thing. The Internet has enabled friends to join and conquer a missions together. There is no better time to be a gamer than now.
