Hacker ethic in the modern world (Week 12)

Hacker ethic in the modern world

In this blog, I am going to talk about hacker ideals or rather known as "hacker ethic", firstly written by Steven Levy and draw an analogy with modern world.

Access to computers - and anything which might teach you something about the way the world works - should be unlimited and total. Always yield to the Hands-On Imperative!
The right to access information is an essential component of a democratic society. Information access is the freedom that gives the knowledge to create new and even more interesting things. However, the bad thing about society is how ignorant they can be to a particular topic without actually fully understanding it before they judge.

Access to information should be free
In my opinion, whether information is free or not is for the person who has it to decide.
Information is not physical and is a pattern that can be copied over to different mediums. Information has its value, and its value depends on its substance and the interested parties.

Mistrust authority - promote decentralization.
As I understand, decentralization is simmilar to global division of labour. The division of labour is simply a matter of dividing up the work and assigning specific duties to the various executive skills From one side, is easier for people to focus on specific tasks and this method not only increases the quantity of work, but also improves the quality of prodution.
However, too much of decentralization may result in duplicate work and inconsistency, which is considered to be a bad thing.

Hackers should be judged by their hacking, not bogus criteria such as degrees, age, race, or position.
It sounds obvious and it is not hard to draw an analogy with the modern world, where, unfortunately a lot of rudeness and hate still present. So, we just need to do the best we can, treating others as we would like to be treated.

You can create art and beauty on a computer.
You can express yourself very well through digital art. You can make lots of different types of art on a computer. You can draw, play with photographs, create music, let's not forget about video games, which are truly a collision of art and science. There is an enormous variety of tools and application that can help you make your own masterpiece.

Computers can change your life for the better.
It is a very controversial statement, however I am more proned to agree with it, since the computer changed the way we live, work and think. There is unlimited variety of digital services and with rapid growth of technologies it will make our lives better. Or worse...who knows
